Exhibition
Semester One · 03
For the exhibition, I chose to display my piece from the painting induction as I feel that this was the most successful final product. My piece, Untitled (Pink and Blue), consisted of a painting divided across four separate wooden panels. When displayed together in this position, it gives a slight illusion of a window due to its shape and composition. The way the panels were installed casted shadows on the wall, which gave the piece more depth and dimension.

For the installation of the work, MDF cleats were glued to the back of each panel. These brought the panels slightly more away from the wall, casting shadows behind it. This effect was not planned, but it appeared intentional after the installation and it enhanced the three-dimensional quality of the work. I am pleased with how the shadows contributed to the final outcome.
As the wooden panels were completely flat, these cleats were necessary for a secure installation of the paintings. Because I used oil paint, this process had to be done closer to the exhibition date to ensure that the paint was fully dry to avoid damage. In hindsight, I would have prepared the panels for displaying before starting the painting which would have made the installation process more efficient. However, the cleats supported the work well and worked effectively. This stage was completed following my final induction, which was woodwork.
If I were to work on this piece further, I would paint the sides of each panel to create a more immersive experience when viewing the work from different angles. I would choose a dark shade of blue for the edges, which would both contrast with the front of the paintings and visually connect with the shadows on the wall.
